In 2009, Cat and ZBB co-founder Brian Legg left California to settle in Mexico’s only official clothing-optional beach and start a rock band.

The band started with one amp, two microphones,  an acoustic guitar, and a ukulele —all piled into a rusty wheelbarrow and topped off with big dreams. The group soon gathered a loyal following and became the Zipolite Beach Billies.

A Lifetime of Music

Cat’s seven-year stint with the Dirty Butter Band introduced her to the incredible music, rich culture, and friendly people of New Orleans. The now 50-year-old band toured with the Father of Zydeco, Clifton Chenier, as well as many other New Orleans and Mississippi Delta musical legends.

Cat’s mentor and bandleader, Tim Greenwood, brought the spirit of New Orleans to the West Coast.  Cat fondly remembers after gig gatherings and Tuesday night dinners at Mr. Tim’s Bar and Grill, where she honed her skills jamming with some of the most-respected traveling musicians in the blues circuit.

Aside from her own musical projects, Cat has been a frequent guest with a dizzying array of musical groups, including a two-night run at the Fillmore West with the Disco Biscuits.

Musical Theater

Before embarking on her ex-pat journey, Cat dedicated her free time to the community theater scene in Santa Cruz. Her volunteer service included performance, set design, and production for several local organizations, such as:

  • Scott’s Valley Performing Arts
  • Mountain Community Theater
  • Santa Cruz Actor’s Theatre

Cat’s production credits include Tom Lehrer’s Tomfoolery, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and a landmark inauguration of Hair at the Rio Theatre. Her favorite performance was playing the quirky chanteuse Sally Bowles in Cabaret.

Cat currently lives on the coast of Oaxaca, Mexico, and works as a freelance cannabis and travel writer. You can check out some of her work on Medium at Beaches and Weed, Rockergirl in Mexico, and Cannabis Explorations or peruse Cat’s extended resume on LinkedIn.
